One by One
by Ruth Ware
Ruth Ware has always been hit or miss for me, and this is an unfortunate miss. The premise is interesting, and she does a great job riffing on stereotypical start up culture in the beginning. However, as happens in many books like this with an ensemble cast, most of them are shallow stereotypes that you never really get invested in. As a result, when they start being picked off one by one, you don’t really care all that much.
While I will not spoil who the killer is, I will say that it took me so long to figure out who the killer was because it was an incredibly obvious person, and I assumed that it was way too obvious to be the actual killer. I was wrong!
Either way, two stars for being a relatively quick read and the first few chapters.
