A Bright Heart by Kate Chenli

Did not finish book. Stopped at 4%.

Could be my beef with YA, but even this little into it, everything feels too simplistic -- prose, characters, morality, etc. 

I dislike how American/Western it feels for a Chinese setting. Stupid pet peeve -- can't stand the spelling of Mingshin, instead of more standardized pinyin of Míngxīn.
