Circe by Madeline Miller

5.0

we always hear the stories of the heroes. they fight the big bad monsters but where do the monsters come from???? who are they?? what is their story?
now i don’t know if this is an accurate portrayal of who Circe is or any myths surrounding her- because the most popular tales revolve *gag* men- but i’m willing to believe it. I’m so glad that Circe found her power and the second thing she does is turn Scylla into a disgusting, tentacled monstrosity. The first being turning Glaucus into a sea god (undeserved).
turns out Miss Circe thrives on solitude and maybe the best thing that could have happened to her is her exile. or second best? shouldn’t her son be the best thing? i don’t know, but there’s something there. love the story, love Circe being a badass, love to know that she’s not just a man hating bitch, she’s a sorceress, a mother, a lover, an alchemist.
and because i’m too comfortable being myself on the internet here’s my hot take after reading this book
i wish i could turn my r*pist i to a mfing pig.
