Little Mercies by Heather Gudenkauf
3.0

I enjoyed Little Mercies, but I do think I should have started with a different Heather Gudenkauf book for my first read from that author. I checked this one out because I saw one of the main characters was a social worker, and it occurred to me how little of books I've read with a social worker character when that's what I am going to school for.

The main character, Ellen, is a family social worker, so she does multiple jobs for multiple families with multiple different problems. The book had really good insight of the life of a social worker, and all the different cases Ellen had to deal with. It made me so excited, even though there were so many tragedies. And the turn the book took I truly did not see coming. I even had to read the page over again to be like "wait a second, am I for sure I read this right". The problem I had with the book is that it just seemed so light for such a deep topic. Just the whole aura and atmosphere of the book was not really making me feel that emotional; it seemed so forced. I loved the connections that were made in the book between the characters, and I love a good dual prospective that comes together in the end. It was an okay read, for sure.
