The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner

5.0

At first I was sure I would rate this low, but believe all the other reviews saying the same thing: The payoff is worth it. The first two-thirds of the book are very slow, dedicated to worldbuilding and seemingly pointless conversations between the same five characters. But as soon as the action hits in the last third, it really hits! Looking back, I appreciate the slow build. The stories about the world's mythology are well-written enough to keep your interest until the main plot catches up.
