Mrs. Dalloway
by Virginia Woolf
I dreaded reading Mrs. Dalloway because I did not like To the Lighthouse. But, it's listed on the "100 Essential Novels" scratch-off poster challenge I'm doing this year so it had to be done. I started listening to the audiobook version and sighed in boredom. Took a few weeks off to move then found a hard copy at the Austin library. The forward really helped set the scene and explain that the book takes place in a day. I then alternated between reading and listening which I've never done before. I enjoyed Mrs. Dalloway because of the concept and all the darkness that creeps into the characters and story. It's a snapshot of post-WWI life in England which satisfied the historian in me. I can't believe I'm saying this about a Woolf novel but I loved it.
