Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë

5.0

Words cannot describe how deeply I loved reading this. Its story and imagery are so hauntingly beautiful and totally sparked my love for the gothic genre. This book is far too complicated and nuanced for me to possibly review it so plainly, but luckily for the lackluster review I'm posting here, I've discussed this book heavily for hours within my English class to make up for it. I cannot recommend this enough, especially to those who love tragedy and romance. Bronte is magnificent at her dialogue and narrative; you're following horrible, corrupt people, and still manage to pity them and understand their sorrow to a point where you feel passionately about them. Not only that, but there are so many layers in Wuthering Heights: Nelly's POV, Lockwood's perception of the families, and of course the generations of family trauma. Seriously, if you're looking for a book to change your life and completely reinvent the way you read stories, I think this is for you. That sounds dramatic, but then again, this book is!
