The Parker Inheritance by Varian Johnson

informative mysterious reflective medium-paced

4.0

This one started out slow for me but really picked up towards the end! I think this one is way better in print - there's even different colored pages to help young readers switch from one time period to another. It was hard to keep track of which timeline I was in when listening to it on audio.  This was a fun mystery that two friends try to figure out together.  It took a look at race relations and used the puzzle to unearth the history behind the city and not all of it is a good history.  It did feel like some of the queer representation was kinda thrown in there; it felt like a lot for one middle grade novel. It didn't add or take away, it just felt squeezed in there.  Overall a fun and emotional read - I got a bit teary eyed at the end!
