Amelia Winter is the daughter of a vampire hunter, but her best friend Tessa has gotten herself into a bind. Tessa owes money to a vampire who gave her money after she decided to break away from the controlled courtesan world. In order to get the money and save Tessa's life, Amelia agrees to become a courtesan. During a banquet, in which the vampires bid on the courtesan of their choice Amelia receives the highest bid from Ethen Rune. Ethen doesn't typically bid but does donate to the cause, but he knows that she is the one for him. Ethen tries to protect Amelia from the guy after Tessa. In the end she is kidnapped and turned into a vampire against her will. She believes that her family is not going to accept her the way she is, but she couldn't be more wrong.

I enjoyed this story, Amelia is willing to do whatever it takes in order to save her best friend. Ethen and Amelia are great together, and their relationship builds in a realistic form. Marked is part of the Blood Courtesan series and I have enjoyed the books I have read so far.
