The Secret Place
by Tana French
I have a love/hate relationship with Tana French's books. The story was compelling, the characters and relationships were well developed. But still... I was so frustrated by this book! First, it is long (452 pages) and almost all of it is dialogue. Second, the bulk of the book takes place in one day which is kind of unbelievable for all that happens. Third, there is a weird element of the supernatural which feels out of place and is confusing. Finally, there was something that happened several books ago that is referenced over and over again but never explained. I wish I could remember what but I don't and it really annoyed me that she didn't at least give a bit more insight into that for those of us who either don't remember or didn't read the other book (her books are so loosely related that you really don't have to read them in order). I'll give it 3 stars b/c of the story and characters. I won't be rushing to read her next book, though.
