A Princess for Christmas by Jenny Holiday
4.0

*3.5 stars rounded up! A Princess for Christmas by Jenny Holiday is the perfect Christmas read for fans of made for TV Christmas movies and steamy contemporary romances.

When Leo Ricci's sister Gabby spots a "princess" trying to flag down a cab, she urges her older brother and sole guardian to pull over and help. Even though the woman is wearing a ball gown in front of the UN, Leo didn't actually think his passenger would turn out to be Princess Marie of Eldovia. Grateful for Leo's help and surprised by how comforting she finds his presence on one of the toughest nights of her life, Marie asks Leo to be her driver for the rest of her business trip in New York. The days pass by in a blur of business appointments and NYC holiday sightseeing that stirs up feelings neither Marie or Leo have felt for a very long time. Instead of saying goodbye at the end of her trip, Marie invites Leo and Gabby to spend Christmas in Eldovia. But will she be able to say goodbye to Leo on Boxing Day?

The premise of A Princess for Christmas is really inventive and I love that Jenny Holiday created her own fictional country Meg Cabot-style. Unfortunately, I didn't love the leads. I think both Marie and Leo are twenty-five but they read young, especially Leo. He's kind of like a toned down frat boy with a big heart and chivalrous streak a mile wide. Marie is educated and cultured, but I felt like too much of an emphasis was placed on the "high-brow" language she used and that language was usually very jarring to read.

I am interested in the world Jenny Holiday is building in Eldovia and look forward to giving Dani and Max's story a try when it comes out next year.
