The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
3.0

I read this novel for a reading challenge at my local library in which I needed to read a classic and a book that has been banned. (2 boxes checked!) One aspect that I really enjoyed about reading this, is that I genuinely felt myself drift back in time, which is a benefit to reading any classic. From the use of old time verbiage and slang (I had to google the meaning of some of them), to the real time descriptions of a typical day in the 1950s, I felt truly immersed in the city culture of the era. Although I found this book to be depressing at times, I appreciated the main character’s honesty as he tells the story of how he finds meaning and purpose in life.
