The Hound of Rowan by Henry H. Neff
4.0
One of my favorite books as a kid, this novel is still incredibly enjoyable as an adult.
While there are a slew of books in the Greek and Roman mythology, The Hound of Rowan introduces a story with Celtic mythos set in the modern world.
Harry Potter feels very childish in the way it is written but Neff takes a more grown up stride in his style. Some of the chapters in the first novel are rushed but they lay groundwork for the rest of the series.
A great intro book into a new magic realm balanced with combat and emotion.
