What a treat to start 2023. This was such a charmingly cozy fairy-tale-type story. It was whimsical, funny (yes I love his humor, but I know not everyone does), adventurous, and it all takes place in potentially the most interesting and unique world Sanderson has created thus far. I enjoyed pretty much every second of this book. It was such a fun experience. And I did it on ebook which normally I'm not a fan of, but it was actually quite convenient and relaxing. I can't wait to get the hardcover because the art and entire design of this book is phenomenal.
This was just such a fresh story from Sanderson, and it's something I didn't know I needed. Something I really cherish and appreciate about Sanderson's writing is his ability to consistently write loveable characters. This book is certainly no exception, as I was immediately hooked to Tress. Additionally, I'm not usually a big prose-observant person, but you can certainly tell Sanderson has taken some strides in his prose and writing with this novel. I love his usually straightforward and simple prose that gets the story across, but this was a nice change of pace. He has some incredible lines in this book. It's just such a great story. Potentially my favorite standalone so far just based off pure enjoyment.
