Gentlemen and Players by Joanne Harris
5.0

This book is one of the more clever books I've read recently. I was able to guess the identity of the pawn earlier on, but there was a twist I still didn't pick up on... I liked the way the book was set up like a chess match. The characters are all so believable. The revenge seems a little extreme, but then again the pawn is such a psychopath through everything even the recollections of their traumatic childhood. The themes are much darker than the book flap leads on. I'm glad I picked this up at the library.
