I preferred this book to Saving 6 but my god, Joey deserved better!! I didn't hate this book as much as S6, but Joey's books are the weakest so far for me. I really dislike Aoife, hated her in S6 & in this book, she is slightly better but she is so vain & selfish, Joey deserves better than her.

My heart was breaking for Joey throughout this series but broke completely when I realised
Aoife was pregnant. He doesn't even want kids but stays by Aoife's side to do right by her. I've said it before & I'll say it again, JOEY DESERVED BETTER!!!

This book was uncomfortable, boring & cringey at the best of times, otherwise it was dark, uncomfortable & slightly heartbreaking. I was really uncomfortable when -
Teddy tried to rape Aoife & then afterwards, Aoife manipulated Joey to be initimate with her, to make her feel better after telling him that he reminded her of his dad. Like, what the fuck?
I am glad it was finally acknowledged that Joey
was raped, multiple times by Danielle, but I want to point out that Aoife did too as she would initiate sex when he was high as fuck, not present & unable to consent!!! Why isn't this talked about?

I really don't understand why people like Joey's books. Joey deserved so much better, S6 for starters was just poorly edited (or not edited at all) & it only gets worse in R6.
I feel like Joey had more chemistry with Lizzie than Aoife. Lizzie truly saved Joey, not Aoife. I did not like Joey & Aoife's relationship at all. Joey should not have had a baby, before he found out that Aoife was pregnant, he jokingly asked her if she was as she was acting unusual & because Aoife is a coward, instead of admitting that she was pregnant, she laughed & replied no, which prompted Joey to reply that he would rather lie down in traffic than have a kid!! It made no sense for his story.
Have I already mentioned that Aoife is vain & selfish? When Joey had responsibilities at home, Aoife would whine about not having enough attention. Aoife was there for Joey, consistently but still, Aoife only really thought about herself.

When Joey was in rehab
& the doctors were talking about keeping him in longer to help his recovery, Aoife threw a fit because she wanted him back in time for the delivery of their son, which I do understand, though at the same time, Aoife kept telling Joey that she needed him clean & if he couldn't do it, she would walk away. So if Joey staying in rehab longer was what was needed to ensure he stayed clean, then why throw a fit & potentially risk throwing all his progress out the window? Make it make sense.

A lot of S6/R6 was repeated material from B13/K13, just from Joey's perspective, it makes sense to see some of the crucial scenes from his POV however, it was too much repeat, it should have been condensed. This book was wayyy too long.

The best parts of Joey's books were -

  1. Seeing him finally go to rehab & get clean
  2. The side characters - seeing Johnny, Gibsie, Shannon, Edel, John & the little siblings was always a highlight.
  3. It was heartwarming seeing John & Edel care so much about Joey, he deserves to feel loved!

One final note, I hate Darren & Marie so fucking much!
at least Marie died so I don't have to see her again, I wish the same could be said for Darren though
