Absolutely stunning. Hard and heavy, but STUNNING. I read this a few months ago and am only just now adding it, but all this time later I am still thinking about it regularly. Other than just being an incredible read, it made me think about social issues I had never thought of before. Y'all know I read a lot of books...this book is one of the few I can point to as having truly altered the way I see/process/think about something. It's incredibly and addictively entertaining, but in a way that almost makes you question your level of enjoyment/engagement. (A reaction the author was purposefully trying to get in the reader). It's like The Handmaid's Tale, but for the prison system. This won't be for everyone - it's dark and emotionally taxing, and it doesn't flinch or hold back, but I think this is a book I'll be recommending repeatedly for years.
