The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson

3.0

I seem to be in the minority here but I’m having such a hard time feeling invested in this series. And I want to be so badly!!

The character development is still severely lacking, similar to how I felt in the first. Vin and Elend are boring, I’m sorry. Sazed and OreSeur were my favorite characters, especially Sazed and his emotional growth in this book, followed by his complete lack of faith at the end. Loved that. But not enough to make up for the other shortcomings.

The dialogue in this book is just not good. I can’t quite pinpoint exactly what it is that bothers me, but this entire cast of characters, “Vin’s friends,” that she’s learning to trust never have any real depth to their conversations. I also found the dialogue after certain crazy intense scenes lacking. Oh, Ham just saved Sazed from Inquistor Marsh’s crazy ass and he says something along the lines of ‘Didn’t expect to see you here Saze.’ And then Sazed just… walks away!? What the actual hell.

I’ll read the third but I think I built this up too much. I have not felt swept up in this story or invested in this plot since the first third of book one. Hoping it gets better, but a big ole yawn from me.
