One of Those Faces by Elle Grawl
2.0
I have a lot of thoughts but I’ll make it short. First, I know a lot of people have an issue with things being left unresolved and nothing really being connected in the end. Usually that would bother me but I think it’s a bit unrealistic at the same time; sometimes events are just unexplainable.
One thing I don’t understand, however, is why there’s such a disconnect between two major sections of the book. The book is split into seasons — starting from summer and ending with spring. Most of the major events happen in the first two seasons and the last 30% of the book consists of the last two seasons. However, the last 30% of the book is just the main character experiencing some level of psychosis and making stupid decisions, and I kind of wish the book ended at the 70% mark.
Lastly, I still don’t quite understand why our main character clings so hard to Erin when she’s such a horrible friend. Why stay friends with someone that literally admits to only being friends with you to feel better about themselves?? Anyway, even though this wasn’t my favorite, I am honestly a bit curious to check out the next book to see if Grawl has improved at all in her conclusions.
