The Water Horse by Dick King-Smith
4.0
4.5 ⭐️
It was a fun adventure to read with my 5 & 3 year old boys. There were many words none of us knew (sea creatures, types of birds, etc) that we enjoyed looking up and finding pictures of, like a “mermaid’s purse”.
My boys were a bit too young to understand some of the scenes as they were written. I had to pause sometimes and explain what was happening, with the vocabulary being a bit more advanced than they are used to. The storyline itself was just wonderful for a wide age range of children though. I can’t pick anything out that I found unsuitable for even my 3 year old.
My 5 year old really enjoyed it the most and he’s excited to watch the movie next. He’s definitely a fan of Crusoe, the Water Horse who was born splashing happily around in a bathtub surrounded by his “giant” friends.
