Blankets by Craig Thompson

5.0

I'm really starting to dig comic memoirs.

Craig Thompson grew up in a Evangelical Christian family, and the book explores his childhood, but focuses a lot on his first love with a girl named Raina. The story jumps back and forth a lot between scenes of Craig growing up and a two week period he spends with Raina.

Thompson's childhood wasn't glowing and happy, but he doesn't dwell on it and the bad things that happened it him. I really like Thompson's art, and his breaks with realism at certain points.

It's a moving story of finding your own place in the world.
