The New Plant Parent: Develop Your Green Thumb and Care for Your House-Plant Family by Darryl Cheng

5.0

I've tried over the years to keep houseplants alive but one way or another, they meet some kind of mishap or issue that stumps me and then they die. When a plant is healthy, thriving and growing everyday, it is SO rewarding. I get excited to see the new shoots or leaves. I'm trying to grow my plant collection again after going without plants for a few years in defeat. I hope to be better at caring for plants so I picked this up again. I also follow the author on Instagram and find his advice very interesting and useful.

This book is good. He's almost like a houseplant advocate because he is trying to pass on the mindset that plants grown at home are bound to be less aesthetic than the ones in nurseries. There are facts and species-specific information (very useful), as well as very revolutionary ways of thinking about how to assess your house's light conditions and how to assess the plant's needs. I hope he writes more books about plant care.
