Love, love, loved this book. Wish I'd had time to write this review closer to reading it because then I might have been able to offer more details, though it might have just turned into a lot of gushing had I had the time to write it then.

What stuck with me the most was that even though Jeanne was rather odd, and I doubt there's a person on earth that has everything in common with her, I doubt any avid reader can read about this character and not recognize a little bit of themselves in her, or at least recognize the teen they used to be. It's doubtful that any avid bookworm was really part of the main stream in high school because to be an avid reader is to march to the beat of your own drum a little bit. I loved that this character was strong enough to not only do so but to relish in who she was rather than who people expected her to be.

Her relationship with Michael was definitely off beat and a little more adult than normally seen in a high school romance and I definitely could have used an appendix that explained a bit more of English schooling to me since the target audience was clearly an English teen and having never lived in England I sort of had to take a guess at what A-levels were and the expectations of an English teen. Honestly thought I think the odd tone and adult nature of their relationship worked for the story and I'd love to know more about where they are now.

This is the sort of book that you don't just finish with a smile, it's the sort of book that leaves you feeling empowered upon finishing it and one I'd recommend to any teen, especially those that don't quite fit it. Highly recommend.
