Apollo is my least favorite MMC in this series.
First is because of the dead wife he loved and mourned deeply and the fact that he paid Valentine to get Ilsa/Maddie because she looked like her. I hate when the FMC feels like a replacement to a former great love. Resemblance to exes being the reason the MMC is attracted to the FMC is such a pet peeve for me.
Second is those moments when he was intentionally cruel to Maddie. Maddie was correct in thinking Apollo may not be hurting physically like her abusive ex-husband but lashing out at her in anger is still verbal abuse. What I hate about that most is the second time he did it, he used things she confessed to him to intentionally hurt her and he knew exactly how that would hurt Maddie. That's just unacceptable to me.
Another thing I dislike about this book is how easily Maddie forgave Apollo after their fights. The whole concept of being the first to approach the guy because she's the woman even though he's the one who should apologize and freaking grovel just grates on my nerves. In my opinion, Apollo has not done enough for Maddie to forgive him.
Ugh. I hate these things and yet, I keep coming back to these books because of the drama and the feels. I loved seeing the other couples in this book especially Lahn and Circe.
I wish Derrik found love as well because he was such a good man, and in the first part of the book I honestly wished Maddie could've ended up with him. Kidding... I was actually wishing this book was a reverse harem because I loved the guys (Apollo's men) and loved that they fell for Maddie while they were guarding her after Apollo just left her. But alas, this wasn't a why choose romance so...
The whole final battle scene was ridiculously simple after all that build up but I didn't really care all that much about the threat of the villains.
I'm not sure if I want to read about Franka's book even though her match is Noc who I think is awesome. She just haven't been a good character in the past and I didn't care about her attempt at character redemption in this book.
