Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

3.0

As someone who grew up absolutely loving the movie adaptation by Tim Burton, I thought it was high time I finally read the original book. First things first, Lewis Carroll must have been on strong drugs when he wrote this book. I was hoping that the familiarity with the story would make it easier for me to follow along, but I quickly realised that Lewis Carroll's writing style was quite challenging for someone like me, who has dyslexia. The intricate wordplay and complex sentence structures made it difficult for me to understand what he was saying and to keep up with the plot. Despite the challenges posed by the book, I appreciate the author's creativity and unique writing style. The inclusion of illustrations added an extra layer of understanding to the complex and unusual concepts presented in the story.

“That's the reason they're called lessons," the Gryphon remarked: "because they lessen from day to day.”
