Bronte's Mistress by Finola Austin

Enjoyed this historical novel very much! I was unfamiliar with this Brontë myth and maybe that helped me to enjoy it more. I am familiar with Charlotte Brontë and her sisters, though I have not read all their works. I might have to delve back into the Brontë's works and see if I can see a similar reasoning to their literature that the author saw. The author does a good job at putting us in the time period and putting us in Lydia Robinson's shoes. I think she did a great job with Lydia's emotional side, really let us see in her head, and made her an understandable and real character. I really appreciated the author's notes at the end of the book that explained her choices for taking the plot the way she did and the supposed history behind the book. I would definitely read more historical fiction by this author if she continues to do such diligent and thorough work for her novels.
