I liked the way you could feel transported to a different time in history. It made me imagine a bit better how life could be then and how religion and politics worked.
I really liked Aliena's character. She's an independant woman who achieved many things despite the fact of being a female in a male-dominant world. I also enjoyed reading about her relationship with Jack.

The thing I didn't like about this book is that the plot is quite basic. There are "good" and "bad" characters. When the good ones are achieving good thing, the bad ones come and do bad things. I found myself thinking 'ok, here we go again *sigh*...' many times throughout the book.

In conclusion, I'd prefer having a more complex plot for such a long book, but it was nice to read and feel like I was living in the past.
