This was another blind date with a book and I went in with low expectations. Magical Realism, Coming of Age and a cast of quirky characters collide in this truly unique novel. Throughout the book the characters go through a variety of emotions and although I was along for the ride I felt a bit disconnected from the characters. I found some of the situations in this book to be completely bizarre and unsure if they were intended to be funny or just add to the strangeness of the book. It was originally published in German and translated into English so it is quite possible I didn’t understand some of the humor that was intended. Overall a solid 3 star, enjoyable, memorable but not a book for everyone.
