A delight, just like Rules of Civility. This is perhaps more dense and detailed filled. I read slowly and enjoyed it throughout.

That said, I didn’t quite love this as much as Rules of Civility, though the characters in this are as nuanced, interesting and extremely endearing. However the difference between this and Rules of Civility is that Civility closely examined grief… it felt like turning over a boulder to examine the creepy crawly darker side of what it means to find yourself and live with meaning. So for that, it touched me more deeply. A Gentleman in Moscow is more light-hearted in comparison, and the cast of characters so huge, the detail so much, that any characters that weren’t fully and completely fleshed out - like Marina and Mishka - stood out as sore thumbs. Still, a fantastic read!

And though the setting is lovely this is WAY too light hearted and hopeful be Russian 😆 but I happily and easily suspended disbelief to go on this charming, meandering journey with Count Rostov. Mon dieu!
