I read this for a preschool storytime about clothes. This one has a simple math component for each time Pete loses a button, the reader has to subtract one from the previous amount, starting with four. You could also focus on colors, because each of the buttons is a different color. I looked up the book on YouTube and was familiar with the little jingle you can sing for the refrain "My buttons, my buttons, my four groovy buttons."

I'd like to make a felt board of this story one day. It would be pretty simple and easy to put together-- although somehow I'd have to work it so that his shirt can open to reveal his belly button. Just didn't have time for now!
