This is a war book with fantasy elements. I feel like that is an important disclaimer for anyone jumping in.

I was absolutely absorbed in every moment, especially with the FMC, and the momentum this book builds is near overwhelming.

This is a brutal book. But honestly? I think it needed to be. The war history and idea of romanticism of war is so present that the devastation you face beyond the academy environment - with the characters - is near tangible with how much sorrow you experience by proxy.

Please read all content warnings about this book that you can, but special call out to grotesque details of body horror.

RF Kuang is incredible.
