itserin17 's review for:
City of Glass
by Cassandra Clare
Overall rating: 4 / 5 stars
'City of Glass' was no doubt my favorite of the series so far. I thought it was the most action packed and suspenseful of first three books. Cassandra Clare has a way of writing that just sucks me into the story, making a 500+ page book go by in the blink of an eye.
I really enjoyed the character development we got to see in 'City of Glass,' as well as the world development. I love when author's pull in a lot of backstory and history, as long as it is still interesting and pertinent, and I felt Clare did it perfectly. The history aspects never bored me and added a lot of depth to secondary characters.
Although I did enjoy the background and development that occurred in the first half of the book, it did at times get a little slow for me. I also had a bit of a hard time keeping the new characters straight, but that may have been partly because I waited so long to read the third book.
I really enjoyed the ending of this book, I thought it was the strongest storyline and ending within the Mortal Instruments series. Since this was initially the end of the series, I didn't have plans to read books four through six, since I thought Clare wrapped everything up very well. I have since read the fourth book though (mainly out of curiosity) and I will say I wish Clare did not continue on with the series. I will be writing a review for the fourth book, so keep an eye out for that.
As of now I do plan to continue on and read the rest of the series, since the fourth book left on a cliffhanger, but I definitely wish the series had stopped after the third. Overall, I found 'City of Glass' to be gripping and suspenseful, with surprises around every corner. If you have read the first two books and enjoyed them, I would highly recommend picking this one up.
