Beneath the Sugar Sky by Seanan McGuire

5.0

My favorite one so far! The adventure through the worlds is thrilling and yet not too crazy to prevent full comprehension, which is hard when there are entire worlds that follow nonsense rules inside these books.
The representation in these books is so effortless, so wonderfully refreshing to see such an array of characters reflect the array of characters we meet in our own lives. Not only this but the lack of romance is so delicious. In a world where children can find entire worlds that suit them more than the ones they were born in, there is so much more important things than romance. I love it, I never have to keep guessing which characters will come together or fall apart because of their romantic relationships, its purely character driven. There are definitely feelings, crushes, glances, overwhelming senses of emotions that are natural as children grow, but they are all occupied by the world they love. It makes total sense.
The building blocks of this world Seanan McGuire has created slowly bring forth this massive image, this extreme conception of her created world that sends your imagination reeling. Not only do you imagine and consider all the places she writes about, but your mind cannot help but wander to all the places she does not write about. There is so much room for reader creativity within this world. Completely entrancing.
