The Earls of Mercia: Lordship and Power in Late Anglo-Saxon England by Stephen Baxter

5.0

This is a truly fantastic history book. It is well written, well researched and exceptionally believable. It is possible to piece together intact lives for the various Mercian Earls from 994-1071 and the narrative flows well and does not confound with too much jargon. I know it probably costs a lot to buy, but if you have a genuine interest in English history before the Conquest, this is a must.
