The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
4.0
This particular book is far from being easy to read. Each page is hard, full with shocks of both reality and suffering. The prose is rich and excellently narrated. There is always a small, impossible as it may seem, ray of hope even in the darkest and most chaotic story.
The world, the characters, the crudeness, the references and the social criticism. Every little aspect makes of this novel one of the essentials in the last half-century.
