The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

5 stars.
Okay I started and finished this book in one sitting. I was told how amazing it was, but as someone who isn’t a huge fan of stories told in verse, I wasn’t sure I’d be jumping on the hype train. But choochoo bitch I’m on it.
This book broke my heart and made it soar. It made me feel so viscerally for our MC and, although my life is extremely different, I was able to relate to the raw emotions displayed on the pages. I think it’s best to go into this book blind, but just know it’s a coming of age story about a girl who has to figure out who she is and what she wants to say in a world that is trying to tell her what to do and who to be. And it’s beautiful ✨
