I knew this book would be emotional because of Addie’s past, but it wasn’t as hard to read as I’d anticipated. Did it delve deeper into the abuse Addie survived? Yes. But it was done in a way that used that abuse as Addie’s stepping stone to creating the life she wanted.

Beckett tired out to be the perfect book boyfriend. I enjoyed his determination to expose Addie to everything she’d missed out on being raised by an abusive father. He made it his mission to find everything she liked and help her achieve anything she wanted. From the smallest thing, like different pizza toppings, to helping her study for her GED and teaching her to drive so she could get her driver’s license, Beckett was there for it all with Addie.

I loved experiencing Addie’s new life right along with her. And as much as Beckett gave Addie, she gave him just as much. Addie wasn’t quiet about wanting to be an equal partner in their relationship. She was determined to be there for Beckett as he felt with his own demons. Addie possessed a quiet strength but that didn’t make her any less strong than someone like Hadley, and it was what made her perfect for Beckett.

I loved how easy the relationship between Beckett and Addie was. There was no real angst and even though they had to learn to trust each other, it felt very natural. The suspense in this wasn’t ever a mystery. It was pretty obvious who the villains in this story were, but the level of hurt they dished out was on another level. As emotional as Addie’s background was, the most heartbreaking moments for me were during the search and rescue of Addie.

This was the perfect story for Addie, and it came at the perfect time in this series. She had to take her first steps towards freedom and have some time to heal before she would be ready for Beckett, and he returned to Wolf Gap at the perfect time.
