Me (Moth) by Amber McBride

This book reminded me of [b:The Things She's Seen|42356928|The Things She's Seen|Ambelin Kwaymullina|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1544990392l/42356928._SY75_.jpg|66005593]. Their topics aren't really similar, but there's something about the atmosphere of both books that made me connect them.

Moth is the only survivor of a car accident that kills the rest of her family. She lives with her aunt Jack now, and practices the Hoodoo rituals her grandfather taught her. A new boy moves to town, Sani, and it seems like he's the first person in a while to really see her. He carries a lot of sadness inside, and they go on a road trip to help end some of that sadness and loneliness they both carry.

It's beautifully written, and everything is a little bit magical and not quite real the whole time.
