I was so excited for this series in the beginning and while reading the first few books, but by the time I got to this one I was more than ready to be done with it. Though there were many enjoyable moments and there was undeniable potential in this series and in the characters, it just felt to me as if it was missing something vital. One major grievance I have with this series and with ACOTAR is that Sarah J. Maas picks a few of her favorite phrases, holds on to them for dear life, and then proceeds to reuse them on every other page. That wasn't as much of an issue for me at the beginning, but when by the end of Kingom of Ash, “Aelin's magic became a song in her blood" every other page, I was constantly yanked out of the story and it was quite frustrating.
