Murder By Candlelight by Faith Martin

4.0

Delightful. In one word, that sums up my experience listening to the audiobook, Murder By Candlelight.

It's early 20th-century England, we've got a big, countryside home, a ghostly happening, a will, a locked room, a murder or two, and a host of ridiculous but amusing characters, at least one of whom is a murderer. Unless its the ghost. Or suicide?

This is a fun, Agatha Christie-style little mystery led by Arbie Swift, accidental author of The Gentleman's Guide to Ghost Hunting, a surprising bestseller that propelled Arbie into unwanted fame. Arbie (Arbuthnot!!) has got to be the world's laziest narrator and detective. Surprising and secretly clever, all Arbie wants is to be left in peace to bumble about and not do much. Unfortunately for him, that isn't possible when local wealthy woman Amy Phelps requests his help to rid herself of an unwanted ghost plaguing her day and night. He reluctantly agrees, and to his misfortune, a bit of playful ghost hunting turns into an all-to-real murder investigation. Witty, funny, clever, enjoyable and atmospheric in the best way.

If you like cosy mysteries, turn-of-the-century settings, locked-door puzzles, dabbling in the supernatural
Spoiler no supernatural happenings in the end but the sprinkled hints were fun
and Agatha Christie, this book is for you!

My only complaint is that the end tied up a little too quickly for my taste. Looking forward to the next book (which I assume there will be!)
