Not sure If I really enjoyed or just enjoyed it.. hmm.. It's sort of in between.

I really enjoyed the spiritual things within the story: about links/bonds, demon gods, shamans, and spirits.

That said for me the two main characters felt younger than other young adult books I read like from  Shadow of the Fox or  The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea.

The characters weren't complimenting each other - I felt for Lan at times because of her mother but nothing for Zen. It was hard to sympathise. Other interactions between other characters felt flat to me. The surprise in the end was weird. That didn't make any sense to me personally and Lan didn't show any interest at all throughout the book about that.
