Broken Angels by Richard K. Morgan
5.0
Better than both of the others. The slaughter at the end was really awesome—very graphic, hardcore violence—even if it bordered on unnecessary. The shootout at the end is, most definitely, the most violent scene I have ever read in literature, hands down. It had me questioning the purpose for such slaughter. I’d be lying it I said it wasn’t entertaining, though. Morgan’s ideas of the Martians are the coolest interpretation of that idea maybe ever, sharing that note with the Martians from the DC Universe. I like the way he gave the background of the Martian civilization and its value to the humans of the 26th century, and had some applications with the way we think of the ancient Egyptians. It took a while to get Takeshi in my head as a young black man, instead of the detective in the trench coat. His personality, however, remains unquestionably his own.
