Steve Cavanagh never misses, and “The Devil’s Advocate” is proof. I picked this one up out of order in the Eddie Flynn series (my usual chaos method), and I was hooked

This round, Eddie’s off to Alabama, where District Attorney Randal Korn is basically the devil in a suit. Korn is obsessed with the death penalty and doesn’t care if the accused is guilty. He’s already got an innocent man lined up for execution, and it’s clear he’ll stop at nothing to make it happen. Korn is the type of character you want to see killed off! In comes Eddie Flynn, my favorite con-artist-turned-lawyer, trying to untangle a rigged case in just seven days. And the town isn’t exactly rolling out the welcome mat for him.

I love how Cavanagh always gives Eddie these impossible odds that make you think, “There’s no way he’s getting out of this.” But Eddie has that slick mix of smarts, guts, and occasional scams. His little scams are so creative! I always have complete faith in him, and he hasn’t let me down yet. I love watching Flynn work his magic against despicable characters like Korn. He keeps me entertained through the entire book!

If you’re like me and read these out of order, it still works. Sometimes I’d catch myself thinking, “Wait, I know how this ends. I’ve already read the next book.” Still, it’s probably best to read them in order. Legal thrillers don’t get much sharper or more entertaining than Eddie Flynn’s cases.

Thank you to the author and Atria Books for this ARC provided via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
