Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

5.0

I have read this classic probably 5 times over the course of 17 years and each time I begin I worry that I'll dislike this book I've frequently touted as one of my all-time favorite reading experiences. To be sure, as I've grown into adulthood, I veiw parts of this book much more critically. There are certainly valid criticisms to be shared about Charlotte Brontë's most well-known novel, representations of race and mental illness here being hard to discern from 21st century perspective and connotation. And, honestly, I am far rom religious and parts weighed me down a bit more this time than I previously recalled. Yet, as I finish it another time, I find that, though I must now balance its faults, the closing of this book still makes my heart buyount. I think it's safe to say at this point that I will always love Jane Eyre.
