The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag
by Robert A. Heinlein
As a teenager, I loved The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag and the accompanying short stories. They had just the right combination of philosophy, spirituality, sci-fi, and fantasy to keep my mind occupied with interesting ideas and unanswerable questions.
Side notes:
The title story was written in 1942, so it's chock full of gumshoe detective, film noir feel. Plus it's funny- I can hear them talking fast and sassy like His Girl Friday.
All You Zombies reminded me of.
I could do without The Man Who Traveled in Elephants and Our Fair City. They're a little cheesy.
