Yelena is saved from execution by a similarly dangerous offer to become the Commanders food taster. She accepts, and under the careful eye of her teacher Valek, she begins her training.

As well as encountering old enemies, Yelena seems to be at risk of being killed by everyone she meets, and she has no idea why.

Whilst struggling to avoid enemies old and new, Yelena must figure out why everyone wants her dead, and how to stop it.

I started this book on holiday and it was absolutely perfect. Easy to read in short bursts, with a great storyline and really likeable characters. There were never any dull moments, and some really interesting twists and turns.

The story takes place in Ixia, a military led territory. I really enjoyed the scene setting and explanation of Ixias laws. A different take on a slightly dystopia future. A little 1984ish.

There's also a slow burn romance subtly built into the story. I'll let you find out who that's between!

I'd recommend Poison Study for most fantasy fans. If you like the Red Queen series or Bone Season series then you'd like this.
