P.S. I Spook You
by S.E. Harmon
A great new detective/medium series! I've gotten into these since reading Pandora Pine's Cold Case Psychic series and S.E. Harmon gives us an interesting mystery along with some intriguing characters.
We stay with Rain's POV throughout the book. He has been living with and ignoring the ghosts around him. It's now interfered at work and he's been sent off to his home town to work quietly in the background, without drawing attention to himself. It also brings him back in contact with his ex, Danny, who he never told about his ability.
Rain is trying to work the case and hide what he can do from all of those around him. This isn't sustainable though, especially when he affects the case. It increases tension amongst the team and especially with Danny as keeping secrets is basically what pushed Rain to leave last time. Between Rain and Danny, their attraction and connection is still their and increasing as they spend more time together but you can feel how much they are holding themselves back. Rain's reason is clear and Danny, rightfully, is distrustful after Rain left him previously. They can't deny themselves though and it's not long before they find comfort with each other. It kind of feels like a security blanket for them both as they fight to work through the case with new links coming up with Rain's gift keeping them on their toes and suspects/witness's hindering their investigation.
Rain needs to make decisions on working with his gift going forward and if he can trust Danny with his secret. He needs to stop trying to be "normal" as there's no such thing. Rain's family are a hoot, offering a little bit of entertainment. They are very different from his buttoned up, FBI self and is funny to read him interact with them. The team that he starts working with again having varying reactions to him joining them on the case and it's good reading their interactions, many of them not wanting him there in the first place.
This is definitely a good start to a new series. I loved the case that the team were working on. It keeps the reader on their toes as to the outcome and the relationship between the MC's, at times, could have swung either way. I'm interested to see how Rain moves forward and what case they'll be working on next.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
