this was a tough one for me to get through. i think i was looking for more atmosphere and exploration into the magic, but instead this book focuses primarily on the interpersonal relationships between the characters. pacing was inconsistent at best, sometimes it dragged on and on and sometimes it flew by. i had a hard time keeping the characters straight and a lot of the time found myself rereading paragraphs over and over trying to decipher what was going on. i enjoyed the horror and magic aspects, but i think they could’ve been taken a little bit further and i wish that they were throughout the whole book, not just the last quarter with some smatterings before. a good book, just not for me
