Damn this book came so close to being perfect!
Maybe spoilers ahead be warned.
I loved everything about this book. I loved the fact it took place in Greece. I loved the witty banter, the humour, the action, the adventure, the plot, the supporting characters, the villains. All of it.
Except when I got about halfway and Bennet dropped the “I can’t love you” bomb my heart just sank. Even more when he said “I love you” twice later on. I thought that was fucked up and not fair on London. Especially after she’d said she wanted real love.
Even though it was brief and he quickly realised he did in fact love her I’m still not a big fan of Bennet. It just reinforces the myth that “he will change for me”. And I know it’s just a book but I’ve had that said to me and I can tell you womanisers don’t change. Or even worse they think they’ve changed but haven’t done the work. And they do tire of you and revert back to their old ways. I tend to prefer heroes who are witty and charming like Bennet. But you know what? Maybe Gabriel in the previous wasn’t exactly a smooth talker but at least he was consistent with his affection from the start and knew exactly what he wanted. But regardless I still absolutely loved this book! I did have tears in my eyes when Bennet professes his love to London. His declaration was really sweet and beautiful.
