House of Sky and Breath by Sarah J. Maas

3.0

I considered rating this book 4 stars simply for the last 100 pages or so but I really couldn't because the it felt like not much happened in the other 700 pages. I'm a strong believer in quality over quantity and I think that this book really could have said everything it NEEDED to say in about half the length. The world building is great and gods know I go absolutely feral for crossovers (and WHAT A CROSSOVER damn).

It wasn't BAD necessarily, but I was expecting much more to be honest. I know this is probably an unpopular opinion but I find that I just don't care all that much about Hunt and Bryce? I was tentative about them after finishing the first book and I wanted this book to really sell them for me and it just didn't. I found that I was much more interested in Ruhn and Lidia's story than in our main characters'.

This book did not pass my 'escape test'. I found myself re-writing bits in my head as I was reading and that's always a bummer when I want to fall into a story.
